Breakthrough

,

Happy Sabbath, friends!

In continuation of honoring Mental Health Awareness Month, I thought we would reflect on the message of going through difficult seasons in our lives — and how God can set us free and make a way even when it feels like there is no way out.

Today’s message focuses on Paul and Silas in prison. They were beaten and arrested simply for being witnesses to Christ’s almighty power.

Maybe the hardships you are facing do not look exactly like theirs, but every struggle and difficulty we experience matters to God. We are all carrying something — whether big or small — and the beautiful thing is that God still shows up for every hardship, every burden, and every painful season because He deeply cares for His children.

Acts 16:16-24 (NIV)
“Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her. When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.” The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.”

Worship In The Middle Of The Pain

Sometimes we face moments in life where everything feels suffocating. Maybe you are walking through a situation that feels like a constant cycle — one that leaves you feeling trapped with no way out.

Paul and Silas could have easily responded in anger after being treated so unfairly, yet instead of allowing bitterness to consume them, they turned their pain into worship.

Acts 16:25-26 (NIV)
“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”

When we worship and surrender our pain to the Lord, it is amazing what God is capable of doing.

Paul and Silas were trapped in prison and facing deep hardship, yet God heard their cries, broke their chains, and set them free.

And the same God who delivered Paul and Silas is still capable of bringing breakthrough into our lives today.

Having faith does not mean pretending everything is okay or avoiding the pain — it means facing the pain and bringing it directly to our Heavenly Father, trusting that He is capable of carrying burdens far greater than we ever could on our own.

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Psalms 62:8 (NIV)
“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Waiting On God’s Timing

We are all going to face hardships and tribulations throughout our lives, but we must remember that God will carry us through those seasons in His perfect timing.

Breakthrough can happen instantly, but often it does not happen right away.

Sometimes the waiting seasons teach us patience, dependence, and trust in the Lord — knowing that what He has in store is far greater than anything we could ever imagine for ourselves.

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Romans 8:28 (NIV)
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

A Prayer For Breakthrough

I pray over every person reading this message today that when difficult seasons arise, they will not allow the pain to consume them, but instead learn to turn their pain into worship.

Thank You, Jesus, for constantly loving us and carrying us through every trial and hardship we face.

I pray that every person reading this message may place their complete trust and hope in You, knowing that even when answers do not come immediately, You are still working everything out for our good.

When we surrender our hardships and struggles to the Lord and truly trust in Him, breakthrough happens in God’s perfect timing.

I can personally look back on many hardships in my own life where, in the moment, I thought there was no way out — yet God made one. And through those seasons, I came out stronger and closer to Christ.

If you are currently walking through a difficult season emotionally, physically, spiritually, or mentally, I encourage you not to give up.

Our God is still a God of breakthrough.

2 Corinthians 4:14-18 (NIV)
“because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

May the Lord be with you always — through both the highs and lows of life — because His plans are good and everlasting.

Amen.
