Happy Sabbath friends! I’m sure we all have people in our lives whom we consider our best friend, our person, or our partner. Even though the Lord can be all those things to us, one word comes to mind when I think of Him – He is my constant.
He is never-changing and always the same. We can rest in the truth that no matter what happens, He will show up – time and time again – because He is our constant.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 NIV
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
Have you ever faced moments in your life when you were deserted by loved ones? Or maybe times when you were let down by those you trusted most? I know I’ve had those moments – and Paul experienced the very same thing in Scripture.
“At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.”
2 Timothy 4:16–17 NIV
When Paul needed people the most, he was abandoned by those closest to him. Maybe you’ve been there too – walking through a tough season and realizing the people you loved didn’t show up for you. Here’s the good news: just like Paul, you can trust that the Lord will stand by your side and give you the strength to persevere.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”
Hebrews 13:5 NIV
There will be moments when this world lets us down – but we can rest in the truth that our Lord is our constant. When everyone else leaves, deserts, or abandons us, He will be there, carrying us through time and time again. We simply need to choose Him and allow Him to lead the way.
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Psalm 55:22 NIV
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
Isaiah 46:4 NIV
The world may let you down – but our God will lift you up.
The world may leave you – but our God will stay right by your side.
The world may dislike you – but our God will love you forever and always.
The world may be unpredictable – but our God is constant evermore.
Prayer:
I pray over everyone reading this message that they may be reminded that You, Lord, are our constant. You are never-changing, everlasting, the same forever and always. I pray that when we face moments of abandonment or disappointment, we remember that You are right there – filling us with the strength we need to push through, with You beside us every step of the way. Thank You for being our constant.
Amen.
