The story of Jesus’ crucifiction will always be remembered. Easter is one of my favorite holidays because of the meaning it holds. It reminds me yet again how deep and everlasting Jesus’ love for me is when I remember that He died on the cross to save us from our sins. His love is so true and the fact that He died for us motivates me to follow Him and His footsteps every single day. Easter is honestly one of the greatest reminders of Jesus’ love He carries for every one of us.
When Jesus was on the cross, He was mocked and treated horribly by a multitude of people. “And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads” (Matthew 27:39 NKJV). I looked at this part of the story of Jesus’ crucifiction in a different perspective that I want to share with you. We go through so many trials and tribulations in this world. We can probably recall a time where we were bullied, mocked, or degraded in some way. This verse goes to show you that Jesus went through the same exact thing. He gets it because He has been through it. The next time you feel destroyed and let down by the world, turn to Jesus. Jesus is constant and everlasting. Jesus may be divine and perfect, but He has been through the same struggles you go through everyday believe it or not.
Let us fast forward to after the crucifiction and delve into the rising of our everlasting God. If you open your Bibles to Matthew 27, you will see that at the end of the chapter Jesus was put into a tomb that was sealed by stone.
Now Matthew 28 starts off by portraying that it is now the first day of the week (Sunday) and Mary Magdalene and Jesus’ mother (Mary) went to go see the tomb where Jesus was being kept. When they arrived, there was suddenly a great earthquake which caused the stone door to open because of an angel of the Lord that “descended from heaven”. The angel then portrays a message to the women: “But the angel answered and said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you’” (Matthew 28:5-7 NKJV). The women were informed to share the good news that He is risen. This is another reminder that as Christians and His followers, we are called to share the good news of Jesus! We are called to witness just as the two Mary’s were called to do when they saw that He was risen. When they saw Jesus, just as the angel of the Lord stated, Jesus told the women: “‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me’” (Matthew 28:10 NKJV).
The biggest reminder I take from Jesus rising from the dead is that we are called to share the good news of Jesus Christ every chance we get. Jesus saved us all from our sins and transgressions and that is something the whole world should hear and be reminded of! How great is our God!
“‘Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV).
Amen.
