For someone who suffers with anxiety, the unknown is the biggest trigger for it. Not knowing what may happen, or what could happen is one of the biggest reasons my anxiety occurs, but of course, it differs for many others. I do not know about you, but I feel secure when I have control in my life. Usually when I have control, things will be great, but only for the short-run. The only way I can have things go great for the long-run is if I put my trust and control into God’s hands. The biggest thing I’ve had to work on is letting go and giving it to God. It is easier said than done. Believe me, I know. Every time a stressful situation comes up, my instinct is to immediately get control on it, which typically makes the situation worse, or more stressful. When I finally remind myself to let it go and give it to God, I find my situations to miraculously work out in the end.
I decided to title this post “The Unknown” because like I stated: I need to learn and get better at letting go and giving it to God. The main thing I need to let go of is “The Unknown”. I have had countless of times where I’ll be sitting doing homework and I suddenly think “what if this would happen to me?” and then my mind goes spiraling into a million possible things that could go wrong. The unknown also starts off with us questioning ourselves “What If?”. I believe the main thing I need to work on, and possibly you as well is: instead of asking “what if?” and actually asking ourselves “what can God do?”. I feel like asking ourselves “what can God do?” instead will really change our mindsets and help decrease that anxiety we may feel every time a “what if” arises in our minds. Nothing is impossible with Jesus. That “unknown” is already known to Him. God is already 10,000 steps ahead of us. He already has our whole life story written out!
Whatever you may be asking yourself that starts with a “what if?”, just give it to God. Watch how everything will go according to God’s amazing plan for you in the end because you decided to ask “what can God do?” instead of creating anxiety by asking yourself “what if?”.
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Matthew 6:34 NLT).
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done” (Philippians 4:6 NLT).
Amen.
