The Many Plagues

In the book of Exodus, we are introduced to Moses. Moses encounters the voice of God amongst a burning bush and is told by God to help free the children of Israel from the Egyptians. Moses doubts his skills of leadership to free the children of Israel because of his speech impediment. God mentions that his brother Aaron can be Moses’ voice when speaking to Pharaoh, or the children of Israel. As the story progresses, we are introduced to the many plagues that were casted upon Egypt because of the Pharaoh refusing to let the Israelites go. The many plagues were:

1. Water Becomes Blood 2. Frogs 3. Lice 4. Flies 5. Livestock Diseased 6. Boils 7. Hail 8. Locusts 9. Darkness 10. Death of the Firstborn

Even through all of these plagues, the Lord still kept Pharaoh’s heart hardened. Wouldn’t you get frustrated if you were Moses? Moses and Aaron actually didn’t. They kept trusting God despite the fact that Pharaoh kept saying no to letting the children of Israel go. When I read through the plagues in Exodus, I viewed it as a message of patience and obedience with Christ. God is going to test your faith at times. You might be denied, rejected, or whatever it may be…but when you put your patience and trust in God, it will all work out in the end. Even though Moses and Aaron kept getting rejected and went through many obstacles with the Pharaoh, they still kept their trust in God and obeyed every command because they truly trusted the plan God had for them. I know currently we are in a time of quarantine, but maybe this is like the many plagues in Exodus. Put your trust in God during this time. Use this time to draw closer with Him. Instead of watching Netflix all day, pull out your Bible and read the book of Exodus (like me!). The Bible has so many amazing stories and during quarantine would be a great time to delve into God’s Word and truly put your complete trust in Him. You just have to trust that through God, all will work out at the end of this quarantine. God is the hope we crave during this season…grasp His hand today. I pray throughout this quarantine season that we will all trust in God, show patience and obedience towards Him and His plan just like Moses and Aaron did during the many plagues in Egypt.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).

Amen.
