A story told in Genesis 24.
This story of Rebekah and Isaac is a very well-known love story in the Bible. It all starts with Abraham, Isaac’s father, telling the oldest servant to not take a wife for Isaac from the daughters of the Canaanites. Abraham told his servant to go to his country and family to take a wife for Isaac. The servant was nervous that the woman wouldn’t follow him back to this land where Isaac stays. Abraham said back to his servant saying: “And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be released from this oath; only do not take my son back there” (Genesis 24:8 NKJV). After this was said, the servant departed and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor. When the servant arrived he said to the Lord: “Then he said, ‘O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. Now let it be that the young woman whom I say ‘Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink’ — let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. And by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master” (Genesis 24:12-14) NKJV. After Abraham’s servant finished his prayer, suddenly Rebekah was before him. She had a pitcher on her shoulder and she went down to the well to fill her pitcher. The servant went to Rebekah and said, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher” (Genesis 24:17 NKJV). When Rebekah heard this she said, “Drink, my lord!” (Genesis 24:18 NKJV). After the servant drank from her pitcher, she then drew water for his camels! When these things happened, the servant knew that the Lord answered his prayer. The servant was so thankful and rejoiceful towards the Lord. “And he said, ‘Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren” (Genesis 24:27 NKJV). Rebekah and the servant went on their way back to the land where Abraham and Isaac dwelt. When Isaac saw Rebekah and the servant told him what had happened, he brought her into his mother’s tent and Rebekah became his wife. Isaac truly loved Rebekah. This story give us all hope for love. It shows us that if we put our trust in God when looking for our person, He will reveal them when the time is right. God’s plan is the best plan. The servant asked for a sign from God, and God opened his eyes to Isaac’s person. God knows who you are destined to be with. You just need to fully trust Him. Pray to God and trust the process. When the time is right, God will reveal your person when you least expect it.
Amen.
